Mario Sierra

Mario Sierra - Longtime Employee of the City of San Diego

A graduate of the University of California, San Diego, Mario Sierra earned a bachelor of science in applied mechanics and engineering sciences. During his time at UCSD, he co-founded and served as the first vice president for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and played intramural football. Bonita resident Mario X. Sierra later received a master of arts in public administration from National University and graduated from the Management Academy of the city of San Diego, CA.

A longtime employee of the city of San Diego, California, Mr. Sierra served as director of departments including the storm water department, the general services department, and the transportation department. In his most recent role as director of the city’s environmental services department, Mario X. Sierra helped develop and implement the Clean SD program to reduce litter and illegal waste disposal.

Retired since 2019, Mr. Sierra continued to serve as the chairman of the board for the Chicano Federation of San Diego County until March of 2020. Mr Sierra served as the Board Chair for approximately four years and previously spent 11 years as a member of the board of directors for community-based organization Casa Familiar. He spends much of his time at home in Bonita, CA, where he enjoys gardening and working on home improvement projects.
